Creating Compassion

Compassion practices have been shown to improve relationships, support health, and protect well-being while also making a positive difference in the world. Licensed professional counselor and certified mindfulness teacher, Dr. Julie Ballinger, will combine instruction and exercises to help you understand and create more compassion in your life. Dr. Ballinger is currently completing an in-depth teacher training program through the Compassion Institute to become certified as a Compassion Cultivation instructor.
8 week long course; Meeting once a week for 2 hours.

Finding Forgiveness
Most researchers agree that practicing forgiveness can increase our overall levels of health and happiness. But doing it can sometimes be difficult and tricky. Participants are introduced to a variety of mindfulness-based strategies that can be used to find the way to forgiveness and thereby a more peaceful heart. Topics are presented by engaging in a step-by-step process for forgiving.
Cultivating Happiness
Recent research shows us how happiness and well-being can be nurtured and practiced. Participants will be introduced to a variety of strategies that can be used to feel less stress and more joy in your daily life. Topics include: what’s and why’s of happiness; importance of social connection; employing kindness, compassion, and altruism; mindfulness practices for joy; increasing awe; and developing resilience.
Mindfulness for Helping Professionals
This course is an introduction to the ways mindfulness-based practices can be used to enhance the essential skills used by helping professionals including attention, emotional awareness, and compassion. Classes are instructional and experiential including a variety of techniques which can be integrated into both your professional and personal life.
Mindfulness Introduction for Seniors
Recent research has found that mindfulness practices can have a profound impact on our mental health and well-being by decreasing anxiety and depression. Specifically, research on mindfulness and the aging process has found some important discoveries. First, mindfulness can help to increase attentional sensitivity which tends to reduce with age. It has also been discovered that mindfulness practices can slow the shrinking of brain tissue that often occurs with aging. In general, this indicates that mindfulness practitioners’ brains are aging more slowly than their peers. Moreover, research has found that improvement in cellular aging can start to occur with only 30 hours of practice.
Mindfulness for Well-Being
Mindfulness practices have been shown to increase general happiness and well-being. Participants are introduced to a variety of mindfulness-based practices to reduce feelings of stress and find more joy in your daily life. Topics include courage, kindness, gratitude, compassion, equanimity, and forgiveness.
Mindfulness for Pain Relief
Mindfulness practices have been shown to help with pain reduction and pain relief. Participants are introduced to a variety of mindfulness-based practices that can help them feel less pain, reduce stress and thereby add more joy into your daily life. Topics include using mindfulness of sensations, your relationship to pain, stress reduction strategies, expanding tolerance, compassion, and resourcing.
